How to choose the right welding head

Welding head, which is mainly made of copper, is used in welding work. Its basic shapes are pointed, conical, horseshoe, flat nozzle and knife edge. Now there are all kinds of soldering irons on the market. How should we choose the right welding head? When selecting welding head, the general rule is to use a larger welding head for welding as much as possible. The better the wire is, the lower the temperature you can use. It is recommended to use the low temperature setting as much as possible, because the high temperature will burn off the flux quickly, and because of the increased oxidation of the joint, it may lead to poor welding. High temperature also shortens the service life of the tip and increases the risk of thermal damage to components and pcb.

When the soldering iron with lower power is used, the welding head may cool down faster when it comes into contact with circuit boards and components, and it takes longer to heat up. If the components are small, the soldering iron with lower power should be suitable, but for larger components or pcb with ground plane, because it will take away heat, the soldering iron with higher power will be better. As mentioned earlier, it is recommended to use large-scale welding head. When working with welding head, wear will inevitably occur on the surface, and the life of welding head is determined by the number of solder joints. If the coating at the tip of welding head is thick, it can prolong the life of welding head, but on the other hand, it will also affect the heat conduction effect, and it will take a long time to reach the required temperature.
